Mark Murphy, Morehead State University Small Business Development Center’s management consultant, has been selected as the 2013 Sutton Landry State Star of the Kentucky Small Business Development Center (KSBDC).
I am delighted to make this announcement, and to recognize Mark Murphy for his extraordinary contributions to the work of the KSBDC and small business in Kentucky.
– Becky Naugle, Ph.D, KSBDC State Director
Murphy has been with MSU since April 2010. Prior to that, he spent nine years as finance manager for a car dealership, four years as an indirect loan officer for a bank, and has owned two businesses. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing from MSU and is working toward a master’s degree in business administration. He is a two-time recipient of the KSBDC Million Dollar Loan Club.
The award is sponsored by America’s Small Business Development Center Network, a partnership uniting private enterprise, government, higher education and local nonprofit economic development organizations. It is the Small Business Administration’s largest partnership program, providing management and technical assistance to help Americans start, run and grow their own businesses. Each state designates an annual winner who is characterized as an exemplary performer, a significant contributor to the program and shows a strong commitment to small business.
It is named after Landry, who served as director of Northern Kentucky University’s SBDC for 17 years before his death.
Murphy will receive the award in conjunction with the Association of Small Business Development Center’s (ASBDC) Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla., in September.
