The federal government is one of the largest purchasers of goods and services in the world. If you can get tapped into the government there’s a big opportunity for any business to grow and increase sales. That’s why the mission of the Kentucky Procurement Technical Assistance Center (KYPTAC) is to promote inclusive economic development by assisting companies to sell to the federal, state, and local governments, as well as helping them with accessing subcontracts with large contractors. To join the KYPTAC just go to their website and on the home page click the sign-up button, and fill out the form.
The government buys anything and everything. Here are three things to think about as you consider making the government your customer. First, there are opportunities out there for every single client and every single small business. Second, the key to government contracting is persistence. It’s not always the best companies or best products who win, sometimes winners are just the most persistent. And third, get involved with government contracting. Getting a government contract is a different way to make money in a different business cycle. It’s not harder, it’s just that you’re starting from the beginning and learning a new thing. Frank reminds us to just keep working and not worry about the hurdles.
